All inquiries about the panel should be sent to [email protected]
The increasing awareness in contemporary societies of how diets and foods influence human health, global environment, and whole political systems, coupled with a rising interest in the interplay between food, values, and conceptions of the good, has prompted a lively discussion among scholars, lay people, and policymakers on how to intervene and regulate food production, distribution, and consumption. In recent years, a great number of philosophers have taken part in such discussions, from a variety of angles: political philosophy (e.g., Barnhill & Bonotti 2022), ethics (e.g., Thompson 2015), philosophy of food (e.g., Borghini, Piras, & Serini 2022), philosophy of science (e.g., Sholl 2022), feminist epistemology (e.g., Dean 2021), nudge theory (e.g., Arno & Thomas 2016), and so on. This panel aims to cover the widest range of political aspects related to food, bringing together philosophers from various perspectives to foster approaches to facilitate the development of thought-provoking reflections on food politics. Relevant topics include, but are not limited to:
Furthermore, the panel also encompasses theoretical aspects of food that are pertinent in political domains. This includes conceptual analysis and amelioration of food concepts, studies on epistemic authority over food, assessment of decision-making procedures, as well as exploration of epistemic, conceptual, and political food injustice.
